appeared to injure his right thumb on his follow-through after throwing a pass. He left the field in pain. They’ll have to sign another QB.
Other than starter Deshaun Watson, Joe Webb is the team's only other current option at quarterback. Webb will fill in for McCarron, who initially was expected to play at least two quarters of Thursday's preseason game against Green Bay.
It's possible, even likely, Houston will have to add another quarterback for camp depth. It's unclear what the Texans might do If McCarron ends up being out longer than just the preseason.

McCarron signed with the Texans as a free agent on a one-year deal during the offseason after he was released by the Raiders. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bengals after Cincinnati selected him in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of Alabama.
The Texans open the preseason Thursday in Green Bay with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET.
