As expected, the Vikings activated Adrian Peterson on Saturday, clearing the way for him to play against the Colts on Sunday.

The Vikings put Toby Johnson on waivers to clear the roster spot for Peterson. The defensive lineman had been signed to the 53-man roster earlier this week.

Peterson made news Friday when he announced he was ready to play this weekend. Sunday's game will be three months to the day since the All-Pro running back suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee in a game against the Packers.

He had surgery to repair the injury Sept. 22 and was able to return to practice Wednesday.

"Being out there confirmed I'm ready to roll," Peterson said Friday, via the StarTribune.com. "I've had my head in the playbook."

MORE: Why the Vikings might need to cut Peterson

Peterson, 31, has already proven once in his NFL career he's a quick healer. After tearing his ACL and MCL in a game in late December 2011, he returned to action for the 2012 season opener eight months later. He went on to rush for more than 2,000 yards that season and won MVP honors.

Peterson told reporters earlier this week he plans to wear a titanium brace on his right knee during games.
