Adrian Peterson pledges $100,000 to hometown after severe flooding image

Devastating floods wrecked havoc in parts of Texas last week, including in Adrian Peterson's hometown of Palestine.

The Vikings running back has decided to give back to his community and will donate $100,000 to the town this weekend. He will also match any donations given by the Salvation Army.

"Seeing the devastation and the disaster there, and more importantly six lives were claimed due to the storm, I feel obligated being in my position to use my resources to be able to help my community come back from this," Peterson said, via the Minneapolis StarTribune. "It's something that has never happened before. Palestine is not known for flooding. So it really caught people by surprise."

The town was subjected to hard rainfall Friday night, with more than seven inches recorded in an hour.

Four children and two adults died in the flooding, including a high school classmate and former teammate of Peterson's.

Peterson said his family was not affected by the flooding, but that many friends were left struggling in the area. He said people who want to donate to the Salvation Army can text the message "AP28" to 51555. They will then get a link with instructions on how to donate.
