The Jets' season may be doing down in flames with the news that Aaron Rodgers has torn his Achilles — but the Packers aren't happy about it, either.
Rodgers' highly anticipated debut with New York was cut short, as he played only four snaps before suffering an injury on the first drive of the game. He was carried off the field and taken to the medical tent before being carted to the locker room for an X-ray.
Even though the X-ray on his ankle came back negative, an MRI Tuesday morning revealed he had suffered a complete tear of his Achilles tendon, ending his season.
MORE: The latest updates from Aaron Rodgers' injury
The Jets could find themselves right back in the same position they were last year with Rodgers out. However, the severity of his injury could have major implications for his former franchise. Here's why.
Aaron Rodgers trade details
Jets received:
- Aaron Rodgers
- 2023 first-round pick (DE Will McDonald IV, Iowa State)
- 2023 fifth-round pick (Traded down: 6th round — CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse, LSU; 7th round — TE Zack Kuntz, Old Dominion)
Packers received:
- 2023 first-round pick (DE Lukas Van Ness, Iowa)
- 2023 second-round pick (TE Luke Musgrave, Oregon State)
- 2023 sixth-round pick (K Anders Carlson, Auburn)
- 2024 conditional second-round pick (becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of snaps)

How injury affects Packers' 2024 draft pick from Jets
The Packers already made selections with three of the four picks they received from the Jets, but the remainder is the conditional second-round pick in 2024.
If Rodgers had played in at least 65 percent of snaps for the Jets during the 2023 season, that pick would have turned into a first-rounder instead of a second-rounder.
Of course, Rodgers was expected to come in and start every game for New York this season as they contend for a championship, and Green Bay expected the deal to return two first-round picks. That plan has unraveled after his first-ever drive in a Jets uniform.
Now Rodgers will not hit that 65 percent threshold, meaning the Packers are stuck with the Jets' second-round pick for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The only positive for Green Bay in the situation is the potential that the Jets regress significantly from expectations with Zach Wilson or another option at QB for the rest of the season, giving the Packers a better second-round pick.
Even if that happens, though, the selection won't come close to having the value Green Bay expected when it made the trade.
