With only four teams left in contention for the Lombardi Trophy, things are starting to really heat up.
The top two squads in the NFC go head-to-head this Sunday with a trip to Super Bowl 57 on the line as Brock Purdy and the 49ers head east to take on Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.
LIVE: Follow 49ers vs. Eagles updates from NFC championship game
Purdy's magical rookie season continued last week with a scrappy 19-12 win over the Cowboys in the divisional round. It moved his record as an NFL starter to 8-0 and extended San Francisco's winning streak to 12 straight games. The last time Kyle Shanahan's team took an L was all the way back on Oct. 23 against the Chiefs.
Purdy, "Mr. Irrelevant" from the 2022 NFL Draft, continues to look up to the task under center. His game against the Cowboys wasn't the greatest of his short career, but he made a crucial throw in the third quarter to tight end George Kittle, whose spectacular juggling catch sparked the Niners' only touchdown drive of the game. It was enough to give them the victory thanks to another stifling performance by the team's defense.
However, Purdy and his teammates will face their biggest test yet against the Eagles.
Jalen Hurts and Co. were at their dominant best last time out in a 38-7 demolition of the Giants. Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as he continues to solidify himself as one of the most explosive quarterbacks in the NFL.
“To have him out there, I know this is high praise, it's like having Michael Jordan out there,” head coach Nick Sirianni said of Hurts after the game. “He's your leader. He's your guy. That's the biggest respect I can pay to him.”
Of course, it helps when your quarterback has a supporting cast that includes receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on offense, as well as an elite defense to back them up.
It's going to be a heavyweight clash in South Philly. Which team will emerge victorious and punch its ticket to Super bowl 57?
