When Detroit was first announced as the host for the 2024 NFL Draft, there was a thought that the city could break the all-time attendance record set in 2019. Well, it has done just that.
According to Dana Afana of the Detroit Free Press, the final attendance total for the three-day event came in at an astounding 775,000, which absolutely smashes the old record set by Nashville, which hosted 600,000 people in 2019.
“It has been a historic week here in the great city of Detroit,” Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer said on Saturday. “We have shown the world what the Motor City is all about.”
Making the draft even more special is the fact that there was extra excitement for the home team, the Detroit Lions, who are fresh off one of the best years in franchise history following a 12-5 campaign that ended in the NFC Championship Game.
The Lions came away with six players over the three-day event in a class that was praised by experts. The group included cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., offensive tackle Giovanni Manu, safety/running back Sione Vaki, defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo and guard Christian Mahogany.
Following the draft, the Lions got to work with signing undrafted free agents. The moves haven't been made official yet, but you can check out the team's reported signings right here.
