The 2024 New York Jets, on paper, have arguably the most talented team in franchise history. This includes the 1969 squad that won the team's first and only Super Bowl.
Oddsmakers also view the Jets as a solid team, placing the over/under at 9.5 wins. The over/under this year is the same as 2023 and the under was pretty much a lock after the week one injury to Aaron Rodgers. However, this year feels different than last year and there's a plethora of reasons to dream big if you're a Jets fan.
Not only is the four-time NFL MVP Rodgers back in the mix and fully healthy, but it's what's built around Rodgers that can help get this team over the hump. The Jets have had a Top 5 defense dating back to the 2022 season and it's fair to say that it'll continue this way with the additions of DT Javon Kinlaw and star edge Haason Reddick.
On the offense, general manager Joe Douglas revamped the offensive line with Hall of Famer Tyron Smith and veterans such as Morgan Moses and John Simpson. Douglas didn't stop there, adding a great weapon in Mike Williams who will be the team's WR2 alongside emerging star Garrett Wilson. With a new look offensive line and a solid receiving corps, that leaves possibly the engine of the Jets offense in superstar Breece Hall.
Hall encompassed over 1,500 scrimmage yards which was the fourth best out of any position player in all of football in 2023. Keep in mind, Hall was eased back into the lineup over the first couple of weeks as he was working his way back from a torn ACL in his rookie season. Also, Hall ran behind one of if not the worst offensive lines in football. The Jets 2023 offensive line had the most combinations in the league with 13.
A major aspect to consider in betting on wins for the Jets is their schedule. Five out of the Jets' first nine games are versus teams that had a sub.500 record last season. There are six primetime games, including even two on Thursday nights, on Gang Green's schedule, but this should not negatively affect the team although heavy travel could be a factor.
Overall, if the Jets stay fully healthy (a big if) their floor should be 10 wins. Their ceiling is 13 wins with a combination of health, a resurgence of a high-caliber Rodgers, and a weaker schedule. My prediction is that the Jets will win 11 games and get knocked out the playoffs by either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game.
