New York Jets OTAs: News, quotes and 2024 preseason schedule image

The Jets organized team activities (OTAs) continued this week for Gang Green before minicamp and training camp starting next month. This will be one of the final changes for the Jets to get some practices in before the real heat of the summer gets going —  and we're not just talking about temperature.

This is an important year for the Jets and perhaps the most pivotal one for New York's triumvirate of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. Anything short of a playoff berth will likely spell the end of at least two of their tenures with the Jets.

It wouldn't be an offseason without some uncertainty, too. While the Jets have a few new faces in tow, some are still absent from voluntary practices while others are returning from injury.

The key players are here though, in Rodgers, wideout Garrett Wilson, cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

Here are the biggest news, quotes and updates from the Jets OTAs on June 4.

The Jets revealed who they'll plan during the 2024 preseason this summer. New York plays three games and will face the Commanders, the Panthers and conclude with the annual Snoopy Bowl at MetLife Stadium against the Giants.

  • Saturday, Aug. 24 -at 7:30 p.m. ET: New York Giants

Where is Haason Reddick?

The most notable absence from the Jets this offseason has been Reddick, who the Jets acquired in a trade from the Eagles after Bryce Huff signed with Philadephia. He's missed all of the team's voluntary practices so far this offseason and Saleh even admitted he hadn't heard much from his new defensive end since the trade but expects him to arrive for mandatory camp next week.

"I'm focused on the guys who are here and Haason's a pro," Saleh said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "He's been in this league a while. He's produced it at a very high level for a long time. He's got his routine and if it makes people feel better, we know where he's at, we know what he's doing and we know he's working his tail off to get where he needs to get you to have a productive '24 season."

Reddick is in the final year of his contract and will make $14.25 million in base salary this season. While Reddick hasn't publicly stated he's holding out, the 29-year-old said at his introductory press conference in April that "all options are on open right now" when it comes to his future and that he's left his contract discussions up to his agent and Douglas

Breece Hall being held out of drills

This doesn't sound like a cause for alarm, but Saleh noted during his press conference that the Jets' third-year running back is working off to the side the practice field. Hall is dealing with something in his "lower half," per Saleh, but the team isn't concerned about any long-term injury.

Hall proved to be one of the best running backs in the NFL this past season, so the Jets are wise to try and keep him as healthy as possible before Week 1. The Jets have four running backs behind Hall, but none offer the same combination of speed, power and pass-catching ability.

Other Jets not practicing

Five other Jets didn't practice Tuesday. Those included LT Tyron Smith, CB Brandin Echols, OG Alijah Vera-Tucker, RT Morgan Moses and WR Irv Charles.

Most of the team's starting defensive line aren't in attendance, either: Reddick Quinnen Williams, Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson and Javon Kinlaw.

Highlights of the day

Aaron Rodgers, Braelon Allen and Garrett Wilson had notable plays on Tuesday.

Rodgers connected with Xavier Gipson on a 59-yard touchdown pass late in practice. Rodgers escaped the pocket to his right and threw the ball across the field to Gipson on the left side of the field, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Allen, meanwhile, made a nice contested catch on a deep pass from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, per Cimini.

Rodgers and Wilson connected on a no-look pass as well that apparently looked like vintage Rodgers, per SNY's Connor Hughes.

Nick Mangold attends OTAs

A Jets legend showed up at OTAs on Tuesday. Center Nick Mangold, who made seven Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams for the Jets in 11 seasons from 2006 to 2016, walked around practice with the offensive linemen.
