Retired New York Jets' cornerback Antonio Cromartie is ready for a return to Florham Park.
Currently pursuing a coaching career, the 40-year-old Cromartie made an exciting announcement on the social media site now known as X on Sunday evening. The four-time Pro Bowl selection revealed that he has accepted the invitation to join the New York Jets for training camp through the Bill Walsh diversity fellowship program.
"I’m grateful for the opportunity I have to do the Bill Walsh internship with @nyjets for fall camp. Ready learn as much as I can during this time. Thank you Coach [Robert] Saleh and your staff for this opportunity!!! Back to 1 Jet Dr.," said Cromartie in an X post.
Cromartie, who last played in the NFL for the 2016 Indianapolis Colts, served in a graduate assistant coaching role under Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, he was hired as a defensive analyst by the Raleigh-based Saint Augustine University - an HBCU that competes at the NCAA Division II level.
Cromartie competed four seasons for the Jets' under head coach Rex Ryan. He was a starter on the 2010 team that advanced to the AFC Championship Game. After spending the 2014 campaign with the Arizona Cardinals, Cromartie returned to the Jets for the 2015 season.
Over 78 starts in Green & White, the former first-round draft pick totaled 13 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
All 32 NFL clubs participate annually in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which is designed to "use training camps, offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate and gain experience."
