Giants upset Seahawks in 29-20 win: Everything we know from Week 5 image

The New York Giants (2-3) pulled off an improbable upset on Sunday in a 29-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at Lumen Field.

After the Seahawks took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a questionable goal-line fumble from Eric Gray, which resulted in a 100-yard fumble return touchdown, the Giants got the lead back in the second quarter.

Despite not having Malik Nabers (concussion) and Devin Singletary (groin), the Giants offense found its groove against a tough Seahawks defense on the road.

Meanwhile, the Giants defense generated consistent pressure and came away with some opportunistic turnovers.

Here's everything we know from the Giants' Week 5 upset win:

Keys to the game

  • The Giants defense recorded seven sacks and 10 quarterback hits.
  • The Giants offense put together a season-high 420 total yards and 24 first downs, 14 of which were via the pass.
  • The defense held the Seahawks offense to just 3-of-11 (27%) on third downs.
  • Seahawks running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet combined for seven carries and 30 rushing yards.
  • Isaiah Simmons sealed the win with a blocked field-goal attempt with 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Stars of the Game

  • WR Darius Slayton: Stepping up for Nabers, Slayton recorded eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets.
  • DT Dexter Lawrence: It was Sexy Dexy's day as he recorded 3.0 sacks, quarterback hits and two tackles for loss.
  • RB Tyrone Tracy Jr.: Getting the start in place of Singletary, Tracy took 18 carries for 129 rushing yards.

Biggest takeaway

This was a gutsy win. Without Nabers and Singletary, the Giants were already at a disadvantage on the road against a superior opponent. Then, the Seahawks scored a touchdown on a 102-yard fumble recovery. The fact that they were able to stay in the game was remarkable, and it's another point of evidence that this team has far more fight than the one from last season.

Quick Hits

  • QB Daniel Jones completed both of his deep pass attempts (20+ air yards) for 71 yards and a touchdown. It's the first game in which he had multiple deep passes since Week 2 of the 2023 season (Next Gen Stats)
  • WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton scored his first career touchdown on the blocked field goal in the fourth quarter.
  • Tyrone Tracy is the first Giants rookie running back to record at least 100 rushing yards in a single game since Saquon Barkley did it against the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 30, 2018.
  • Both of the Giants' wins this season have come after gifting the opposing team with a touchdown on a turnover at the start of the game.
  • Despite being tied at halftime, the Seahawks had a 71% win probability going into the third quarter (Next Gen Stats).

What’s next?

The Giants are back home to host the Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) at MetLife Stadium in Week 6 on Sunday MetLife
