The New York Giants found themselves on the wrong end of a call during the opening drive Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
The only problem was that the Giants player didn't commit the facemask penalty. He was the victim of the penalty.
On a second-down run from Daniel Jones that would have set up a 3rd-and-2, Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger was called for an offensive facemask while blocking Cowboys linebacker Demarion Overshown.
The penalty backed up the Giants to a 2nd-and-18. They failed to convert the ensuing third down and settled for a Greg Joseph field goal.
Instead, replays showed Overshown was the player committing the penalty, and the Giants should have benefitted with a spot inside the red zone.

This was a brutal botch job by the officials, and it very well could have kept the Giants out of the end zone.
