If the New York Giants are seriously considering moves around the quarterback position as the draft approaches, head coach Brian Daboll isn't letting anyone publicly in on their plans. But it would seem there are plenty of reasons to think someone other than Daniel Jones will start in Week 1.

Drafting No. 6 overall, and overseeing Jones' rehabilitation following surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered Nov. 5, the Giants are rumored to be exploring potential quarterback options. The Giants met with the six quarterbacks generally considered to be the best in this year's draft, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan. But Daboll, at the very least, attempted to douse those burning fires Saturday.

Daboll told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero there isn't assurances that Jones will be ready for the Giants in Week 1, but "when he gets back, he'll be the guy."

The Giants met with Russell Wilson earlier in free agency, but the veteran signed with the Steelers when he wasn't given an assurance he'd get the starting job in New York. Ranaan also reported the team has concerns with Jones' injury history, noting two neck injuries and the torn ACL that ended his 2023 season.

The Giants know full-well the value of a back-up quarterback. After losing Jones, the Giants lost their first game with Tommy DeVito under center, but managed to win their next three -- their only winning streak of the season. DeVito is still on the roster, along with recently acquired veteran Drew Lock.

The question is how long Jones would be out for, but Daboll isn't giving up anything at this point. Nor is he suggesting replacing Jones is imminent.
