The New Orleans Saints have been looking for someone to step up in their wide receiver corps and provide a good complement to young stars Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. They’ve even been the subject of recent trade suggestions to help bolster the wide receiver room and provide quarterback Derek Carr with some more weaponry. However, the answer may have been hiding on the roster all along, in an unlikely source.
According to reports coming out of Saints training camp, undrafted free agent wide receiver Mason Tipton is making a big impression early. Tipton has been a standout player for the Saints nearly every day of the first week of training camp. So much so that the front office had Tipton address the media at training camp after just five days – a rare move for such an unheralded player.
Undrafted rookies normally aren’t brought to the podium to talk to media five days into #Saints training camp. Mason Tipton is talking today. That’s how good the receiver from Yale has been.

Tipton signed with the Saints after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Yale University. During his four seasons with the Bulldogs, Tipton caught 132 passes for just over 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns, with his breakout season coming in 2023. His senior year saw Tipton grab 52 receptions for 786 yards and 10 touchdowns.
One of the reported highlights of Tipton’s game early in training camp has been his “big play ability”. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Tipton averaged over 20 yards per catch his sophomore season with Yale, and over 15 yards per reception in his final season with the Bulldogs.
If Tipton can keep the momentum going and continue to make an impact in the Saints receivers’ room, he could provide a great complement to the talents already in the receiving room, with the well-rounded Olave and the speed option, Shaheed.
