The New Orleans Saints are a very underwhelming team as a whole. They aren’t quite good enough to be considered postseason threats, and not quite bad enough to be in contention for a top five pick. They are the embodiment of bland.
CBS Sports NFL analyst Cody Benjamin agrees with that sediment, which is why he ranked Allen as the worst coach in the NFL.
“Allen's proven time and again he can deliver a tough defense,” Benjamin wrote. “In more than four years as an NFL head coach, however, he's yet to deliver a single playoff appearance, skewing conservative in crunch time. New Orleans has delayed a total rebuild to give him an experienced roster, and yet he's struggled to shake the notion he's simply holding the top job because of close ties to predecessor Sean Payton.”
The Saints have gone 16-18 in two seasons under Allen, and haven’t won more than nine games since 2020. Even so, the NFC South is still very much up for grabs and the Saints could find themselves in a playoff chase once again despite their head coach.
