Ahead of their Week 1 preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, the New Orleans Saints made a roster move involving Derek Carr’s offense.
As reported by Matthew Paras of The Times-Picayune, the Saints waived tight end Tommy Hudson with an injury settlement.
Hudson, undrafted in 2020 and on his third team, went to injured reserve in a flurry of roster moves last week that involved the tumultuous tight end position. In that list of moves, the team also cut Jesper Horsted and signed both Mason Fairchild and Kevin Rader.
It wouldn’t be unreasonable to see the Saints make further roster moves at tight end in the coming days. At the top of the depth chart, Juwan Johnson remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. That places more pressure on Foster Moreau, whose best role might be primarily as a blocker.
Then again, the Saints have huge plans for Taysom Hill next season, too. But recent roster moves are more aimed at getting guys on the roster who take take training camp and preseason snaps while proving they belong on the final 53.
