A New Orleans Saints running back fans will recognize currently sits on the precarious roster bubble ahead of final cuts.

Former third-round running back Kendre Miller has had his pro journey derailed by injuries so far, to the point he’s sitting firmly on the bubble after only appearing in eight games as a rookie.

That has Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine listing him as a good target for teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs:

“Allen is right that it's difficult to count on a player when they haven't been able to stay healthy. But Miller has enough potential to be worth the risk for a few teams.

He had 273 yards on 51 total touches last season and has decent draft pedigree as a former third round pick.”

For the Saints, it all comes down to whether the team feels like playing the waiting game. Alvin Kamara still leads the depth chart, with Jamaal Williams also right there as a member of the one-two punch.

Other names like Jordan Mims can play depth roles and might have a head start on the system compared to Miller, based on recent comments from Saints head coach Dennis Allen.

“He’s talented. I know he’s talented,” Allen said, according to Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams, “but I don’t know if he can learn the system. I don’t know if he can pick up the system, because I haven’t seen him out there.”

For the Saints, it’s a matter of the numbers game at a position where turnover is high and the number of players teams keep on the depth chart can vary greatly. Availability is key, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see Miller surface with a team like the Cowboys or Chiefs that is capable of stashing him while he gets on track.
