The New Orleans Saints need some wins after a tough week or so of the preseason that included being crowned the most unwatchable team in the league and an ex-quarterback suggesting the team is headed for the worst record in the league.
They will apparently get those wins in the form of injury updates on wide receiver A.T. Perry and defensive back Marshon Lattimore.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Lattimore is ramping back up and should be ready by Week 1, while it’s the same story for Perry.
That’s huge news for the Saints at key positions. Lattimore suffered an ankle injury in Week 10 that ended his season. The year prior, he had only been able to appear in seven games after suffering a lacerated kidney in Week 5, which held him out until the season finale.
The Saints are still counting on Lattimore to have a major presence in a secondary that is undergoing plenty of turnover, which includes having yet to find the starter at safety next to Tyrann Mathieu.
As for Perry, he’s a high-upside wideout from the sixth round of the 2023 draft who came on last year over 10 games, turning his 18 targets into 12 catches for 246 yards and four touchdowns for an impressive 20.5 yards per catch average.
Perry suffered an ankle sprain earlier this week in training camp practice, which is a big blow for a Derek Carr-led offense in a post-Michael Thomas world. If he’s able to get all the way back by Week 1, he remains one of this season’s sleeper breakout candidates.
Granted, the Saints would like to have both key pieces repping and getting timing correct in their respective units during practices. But getting them back right as the games start to matter is a small win, too.
