The New England Patriots have spent the last week working on the practice fields in the shadows of Gillette Stadium for their organized team activities in preparation for their 2024 season.
While New England has a number of capable coaches and strong leadership voices on their staff, head coach Jerod Mayo and company invited a Hall of Famer to one of the sessions.
According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Tony Dungy attended Thursday's session to watch and address the team afterward. Reiss references Dungy's connection with Matthew Slater, who joined Mayo's staff this offseason following his retirement.
Dungy, 68, played in the league for three seasons as a defensive back before spending 28 seasons as coach in the NFL. He was a head coach for 13 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts, winning a Super Bowl and eventually being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020.
Mayo is open to getting ideas from different perspectives, and that's a great thing for a coach taking on this role for the first time.
