At the start of training camp, the New England Patriots suffered a huge loss on the field, as defensive lineman Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots that are keeping him out indefinitely.

The 25-year-old was coming off his best season yet and had been rewarded with a massive extension worth $92 million over four years over the offseason.

While he's unable to help the team on the field, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo tasked him with lifting the spirits of his defensive teammates by sharing funny clips to give the guys a laugh after a hard week of work.

However, Barmore has some tough critics among his peers.

”He needs to do a lot more work,” defensive end Deatrich Wise said (via. MassLive). “That’s all I’ve gotta say.”

Fellow defensive tackle Davon Godchaux didn't hold back on Barmore's performance.

“Friday funnies have been trash, man,” Godchaux said. “Barmore has been doing a bad job. I think I told him, ‘I’m going to try to be in control this week.’ Barmore has been doing a bad job. Man, it’s been terrible. It’s been terrible. It’s been terrible, man. It’s been terrible. Just not funny. Staying on the skits too long. I feel like when you’ve got a comedy show and you’re staying on it too long, you’ve gotta click to the next one.”

Edge rusher Anfernee Jennings shared a similar sentiment.

“They’ve been terrible,” Jennings said. “Make ‘em funny. They ain’t been funny.”

The most veteran member of the defense, cornerback Jonathon Jones, played it a bit more diplomatically, but he was still unimpressed.

“I would say he’s doing all right, I would say he’s doing cool. There’s always room for improvement in anything that you do. So I feel like there’s some room for improvement for sure,” Jones said. “I ain’t just going to crash his thunder and say that it’s horrible, but there’s room for improvement for sure.”

Center David Andrews called Christian Barmore the funniest player in the locker room on a recent episode of his podcast, but Barmore hasn't backed that claim up just yet in this new role.

He'll have to spend more time searching for Druski videos to keep the guys from piling on him.
