While this is a time for current NFL players to relax and recover before their training camp starts in late July, former players are doing some great work around the world, including former New England Patriots wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.

Sanu, who New England acquired for a second-round pick from the Atlanta Falcons around the 2019 trade deadline, is partnering with his mother, Aminata Koroma, and Develop Africa, a non-profit charity organization with the goal of establishing meaningful and sustainable development in Africa, are building a community center in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where Sanu spent four years of childhood.

“Football was not my purpose in life," Sanu said via. a press release. "It was a stepping stone for being an agent of change and making a difference. This community center is one of the biggest responsibilities of my life. It will bring together people who inspire each other and they will stand as a testament to our long-term investment in the community. Beyond the bricks and mortar, the building will be transformed by the energy and passion of the people who visit — professionals, volunteers, staff and families."

The community center will include work and business spaces, a hall for community events and state-of-the-art computer training for children and adults.

“The average high school graduate in Sierra Leone has never had access to a computer or any sort of computer training," Sanu said. "Having access to such technology and training will enrich their lives and help prepare them for relevance in our competitive information-based and technology-driven society.”

This is incredible work by the former Patriots wideout, who played 10 seasons in the NFL and recorded 435 receptions for 4,871 yards and 27 touchdowns. In his eight games with New England, he brought in 26 passes for 207 yards and one score.
