After completing the 2024 NFL draft process, the New England Patriots searched for the next front-office head, which was a position that was previously held by Bill Belichick during his tenure with the team.

On Saturday, the Patriots announced that Eliot Wolf, who was the team's director of scouting for the last two seasons, was named executive vice president of player personnel.

Wolf, 42, oversaw New England's draft process and was essentially the general manager, a title the team hasn't given out during Robert Kraft's ownership.

The Patriots had also interviewed two other candidates (Brandon Hunt and Samir Suleiman) for the position, but there was a large belief that the job was always going to be Wolf's at the end of the day.

Kraft spoke about the decision to hire Wolf in the team's memo.

"As I have stated multiple times during the offseason, the plan was to observe the working relationship and involvement between Eliot and Jerod (Mayo) and see how they managed our offseason personnel decisions," Kraft said. "Then, following the draft we would formally undertake a process for setting up the permanent structure of our personnel department. I have been impressed with Eliot's management style and experience and I'm excited that he has agreed to take on this new position."

With all of the decisions that have been made over the last few months, from extensions to trades and draft selections, it didn't make much sense to let Wolf make those decisions without keeping him long-term.
