On Friday, the New England Patriots held their third practice session of training camp under Jerod Mayo, and defensive lineman Davon Godchaux returned to the field after missing Day 2.
Godchaux has been vocal in expressing his displeasure in his contract situation, as he enters the final year of his contract.
After practice, Godchaux spoke to the media about feelings regarding his deal.
“It’s frustrating, but I’m going to give it to my agent. I’m going to let Drew (Rosenhaus) handle it,” Godchaux said (transcribed by MassLive). “It’s frustrating playing out here with no guaranteed money. But I’m going to put it in Drew’s hands and he’s going to do what’s best for me.”
The 29-year-old has appeared in 51 games for New England over his three seasons with the team, recording 183 tackles (seven for a loss), nine quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
At this point, he's set to make $7.5 million in base salary, $150,000 in workout bonuses and $1 million in per-game roster bonuses in 2024 (via. Over the Cap).
“At the end of the day, I’m playing on no guarantees,” Godchaux said. “I want some stability... I just want some respect.”
