The New England Patriots may have been away from the practice field while doing community service on Tuesday, but there was still work being done back at Gillette Stadium.

According to the transaction report, New England claimed linebacker Steele Chambers off waivers.

Chambers played collegiately at Ohio State from 2019-23 before going undrafted this year and signing with the Detroit Lions as a free agent.

During his time with the Buckeyes, Chambers originally played running back, rushing for 221 yards and a touchdown before transitioning to his new position in 2021.

As a linebacker, he recorded 207 total tackles (13 for a loss), five passes defensed, four interceptions, three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

To make room for Chambers on the roster, New England waived undrafted rookie Jay Person, who they just signed last week.
