The New England Patriots haven't had much to be proud of throughout the first five games of their 2024 season, as they've gone just 1-4 and have lost their last four matchups.
However, second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez has been a joy to watch.
Through five games this season, he's been tasked with covering some of the league's top wide receivers, including Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Ja'Marr Chase, D.K. Metcalf, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk
Despite the challenge, Gonzalez has been great.
In a recent appearance on former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman's podcast, Gonzalez was asked to name his toughest matchup so far, and he had an immediate answer.
“I’d say AJ, AJ’s up there. AJ Brown for sure. He got all the tools. He’s strong, fast, smart. He understands football and I think a lot of people don’t give him credit for how quick he is. Especially being that size…
"Everybody just talks about how big he is and how fast he is. But, he’s real explosive and real quick. He can get in and out of his breaks real fast, so he’s a tough receiver for sure.”
Brown had four catches for 47 yards on 19 routes against Gonzalez in their matchup last year. However, he has the skill set to cause nightmares for any cornerback.
