NFL insider names dark horse team that Bill Belichick may coach in 2025 image

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has kept busy since being passed over this offseason for another job running one of the other 31 NFL franchises.

Now, he's hosting multiple podcasts and appearing on a number of television programs every week sharing his expertise with viewers and analysts alike.

However, Belichick still wants to get back into coaching if he can find the right fit, and Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer recently named the Jacksonville Jaguars a dark horse to land New England's former coach.

“That’s just a sneaky one with Belichick for me,” Breer said. “Tony Khan has a really strong relationship with Belichick, Shad’s son Tony. To the point where, when they hired Doug Marrone, as the full-time (coach), when they removed the interim tag, what was that, 2017? That was largely on the advice of Bill Belichick to do it. So, Bill’s had the ear of ownership in that place for a while now. I just wonder if that’s not rattling around in the heads of ownership there now, especially when you’re renovating your stadium, and now, you’ve got sponsorships to sell. You have suites to sell. All of that stuff. Do you need some more creditability?

"There are some things that line up there where I wouldn’t totally rule out that as a viable possibility for Belichick in 2025. He does have a place, I think, right down the street, I guess right down I-95 there in South Florida too. So, that wouldn’t hurt either.”

While Belichick's Florida house is a bit more than down the street from Jacksonville, the other connections do seem somewhat legit.

The Jaguars could be looking to move on from Doug Pederson if an 0-3 start to the 2024 campaign continues to snowball into a bad year, but they aren't the best plug-and-play option for Belichick.

Teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills, whose coaches are all on the hot seat this year, are more talented. However, it will all depend on who is willing to bring Belichick in and give him what he's looking for knowing that it will only be a short-term solution.

If Jacksonville is the only one to offer in 2025, Belichick may take it.
