The Minnesota Vikings are in the process of trying to get wide receiver Justin Jefferson extended. It's been a long time coming for the superstar wide receiver, especially considering how long the Vikings have been trying to get him locked up.
The two sides nearly came to an agreement on an extension this past September but couldn't quite beat their deadline of the day before the season began. It's a difficult contract to negotiate from both sides because there hasn't been a player like Jefferson before, something the man himself has told the media last September.
"I've done something that no one has ever done in the history of the game, so my situation is a little bit different than everyone else's."
Jefferson hasn't just become an All-Pro and multiple-time Pro Bowler, he also is the third player ever with 1,000 receiving yards after playing in 10 or fewer games. Jefferson is special when he is on the field and he can't be contained with any kind of regularity.
With him being the most productive wide receiver to start a career, it makes the discussion a little harder. If you are Jefferson, you want to be paid like the best non-quarterback in the league. The Vikings have said as much themselves, but will they be able to get it done within the parameters that Jefferson agrees to?
Needless to say, Jefferson is right in that his situation is more complicated than other players.
