Nexflix scored the rights to air two games on Christmas Day earlier this year, which will be one of the only NFL games to ever be played on a Wednesday. While they have secured those games, there are some logistical issues that need to be ironed out.
The one thing that Netflix doesn't have right now is a production partner. That includes everything on the back end from the crew in the truck to the cameramen and the announcers. None of that has been finalized and it could be some time before it is.
The streaming giant is making it's first real venture into live sports and is struggling to find a production partner. CNBC reported that they are struggling to find that production partner with the main reason that they could be emerging competition when the NFL can select their next media rights partners after the 2029-2030 season.
Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen offers services to Netflix
With Netflix struggling to figure out their production and broadcast team, the Minnesota Vikings radio announcer Paul Allen volunteered his services for one of the games on Christmas Day.
I'll call one if y'all are stuck @netflix https://t.co/QhBlrf7kp5
— Paul Allen (@PAOnTheMic) June 14, 2024
Allen is one of the best radio voices in the National Football League. He has been calling Vikings games for KFAN 100.3 since 2002 and has grown a reputation for being one of the best radio voices in the NFL.
In fact, Allen has one of the best calls ever from the week 17 game in 2003 against the Arizona Cardinals when current Vikings QB coach Josh McCown knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs.
Will this be a route that Netflix chooses to go? It remains to be seen but Allen is certainly worthy of the national spotlight.
