The Minnesota Vikings got the contract extension done with wide receiver Justin Jefferson on Monday morning. The four-year contract worth $140 million solidifies that he will be with the Vikings through at least the 2028 season.
It was a long process to get it done, but both sides were motivated to do so. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah opened Tuesday's press conference referencing just that.
"This day, this move was something that was foundational to everything we're going to be as a team this season and going forward.
"There was never a second in my mind that we weren't going to be here."
One of the things that kept coming up, especially among the fanbase, was that Jefferson wasn't going to stay if the Vikings moved on from quarterback Kirk Cousins. He debunked that during his press conference.
"Yeah, I feel like, you know, just with last year's, just with all the things that happened, all the quarterback changes that happened, that really didn't really affect me that much. It really didn't matter who was going to be able to throw the ball. I'm always confident in myself and confident in who'sthrowing the ball to give me those type of opportunities and let me just go make a play for the team."
Having a great quarterback is always a good thing but it's not paramount to success for a wide receiver to be great and productive. Jefferson experienced it last season where his splits with and without Cousins were incredibly similar.
Another rumor we can officially debunk.
