The Minnesota Vikings knew that wide receiver Justin Jefferson was the best wide receiver in the National Football League. They have said it many times in press conferences and delivered with a mega extension. The contract is worth $140 million over four seasons and it makes Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in National Football League history.
Wide receiver contracts have become a major discussion point across the media landscape. Are they worth what they are making when you can draft multiple players in the NFL Draft who can produce for you. However, they still have to hit for it to matter.
While the Vikings did give Jefferson a record-setting contract, they gave it to a record-setting player. He has produced more than any wide receiver over both the last three and four year periods.
If you look at just the last three years Jefferson is at 102.3, followed by Hill at 95, Kupp at 92, Adams at 84.3, Lamb at 84.2, Chase 82.6, Brown, 81.3, and Allen at 81. I just dont see how you comp anyone over him in the short term

Now, did they end up making a great move by giving Jefferson a record-setting contract? That answer will come in time. However, you should always pay your superstar, record-setting players. The Vikings did the right thing here.
