The Minnesota Vikings signed wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a record-setting contract extension worth $140 million over four seasons. It sent shockwaves across the National Football League as Jefferson is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
The two sides tried to get a deal done in September of 2023, but their self-imposed deadline of the day before the beginning of the 2023 season passed with the two sides coming very close to a contract.
The details of that contract were released by ESPN's Adam Schefter when he reported that it was 20 percent less than what he got from the Vikings on Monday.
The day before last season kicked off, Justin Jefferson turned down a deal that would have paid him over $28 million per season, per sources. Jefferson bet on himself and the bet paid off. His four-year extension now averages $35 million per season. https://t.co/dpJ8qEbY4p

$28 million per season is nothing to laugh at. It's a lot of money for any human being to earn per season. However, when you look at how things have evolved over the course of the last year with the salary cap, waiting it out paid off massively for Jefferson. The Vikings saw the cap rise over $30 million this past season which helped Jefferson get that record-setting contract.
