The Minnesota Vikings have a competition brewing for RB3 behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler. Right now, Myles Gaskin and DeWayne McBride are the only two options but rumors have been swirling about the Vikings bringing back Cam Akers.
Initially, SKOR North's Darren Wolfson mentioned that the Vikings would be interested in bringing back Akers if he can pass a physical. On Monday, many analysts noticed that ESPN's transactions page had the Vikings signing Akers pending him passing a physical but it wasn't reported by any national insider nor on the NFL transaction wire.
Being a local insider, Wolfson took to the scoops episode of Minnesota Sports with Mackey and Judd to clear the air about Akers and the Vikings.
"That is correct so we're still awaiting word on the physical. That's a big chunk of this you know he's already recovered pretty nicely from one Achilles tear but now we're talking about a second Achilles tear so that's an extensive physical. But yes, all signs point to this (Akers re-signing) is something I alluded to in this space going back a handful of weeks that Cam has been rehabbing with Mo Ibraham with Ade Murky the former Sacramento King from St Croix Lutheran High School over at training house in Eagan. He has remained in town a good chunk of the offseason that he always had in his mind he was going to be back with the Vikings."
Wolfson has his ear on the ground with the Vikings and it matches what the ESPN transaction wire has listed. Bringing back Akers seems a near certainty at this point, but pending a physical is going to be key considering a second Achilles tear.
