The Minnesota Vikings desperately needed to land a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. All of the national discussion was split on what they would or should do.
The majority of analysts across the 838 mock draft selections I gathered believed that it would end up being Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy. A whopping 273 selections with only 88 for North Carolina's Drake Maye who finished in second place.
There was a hefty offer that the Vikings sent to the New England Patriots for third overall, but it didn't include Justin Jefferson. ESPN's Adam Schefter discussed it during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
"Connor wants me to say that the Vikings offered Justin Jefferson to get up to number three. No, they did not that. They offered various pick packages to come up there," said Schefter. "The Vikings had the most discussions with the Patriots. On Thursday, I texted someone in New England 'Any chance this (trade) gets done?' And the text I got back a few hours before the draft was 'zero chance.' Clearly, the Patriots were determined to stick where they were. They knew, like everyone else, that Caleb Williams was going one, that Jayden Daniels was going two and that they were going to be able to take Drake Maye."
The Vikings were never going to consider trading Jefferson. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has said that himself on multiple occasions.
