The Minnesota Vikings made their first selection of the 2024 NFL Draft by taking Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy at 10th overall. The Vikings ended up getting their franchise quarterback by staying patient in doing so. Instead of trading up a ton of capital, the Vikings just gave up fourth and fifth-round picks.
Now, there will be a lot of discussions moving forward about the Vikings not making a trade up for Drake Maye and if they ended up with the right quarterback at QB5. He ranked 39th on my big board but as a quarterback, it's fine because the ceiling is there.
Jim Harbaugh is happy for Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy
It's no secret that Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh thought so highly of McCarthy. He even went so far as to call him the best quarterback in this draft class. Harbaugh got asked about McCarthy being drafted by the Vikings and had some pointed comments.
“That’s where he had his heart set, and I’m just so happy for him. Love him like a son, and I was praying and pulling for it to work out the way he wanted it to work out.”
The Vikings seemingly got a winner and fans are excited about it, as is McCarthy's former head coach.
