The running back position of the Minnesota Vikings is in better shape but there are still questions surrounding it. According to Charley Walters of The Pioneer Press, they could fortify the room by bringing back running back Cam Akers.
If running back Cam Akers, recovering from Achilles surgery last November, passes an upcoming physical, look for the free agent to re-sign with the Vikings.
Akers suffered his second torn Achilles tendon of his four-year National Football League career against the Atlanta Falcons last November. He had first suffered the injury in training camp of 2022 but returned for the playoffs that same year.
Akers was initially acquired from the Los Angeles Rams last September in a pick swap that was canceled out due to Akers not reaching 500 all-purpose yards. Ultimately, coming off a second torn Achilles tendon kept him a free agent after the first few waves.
Akers has reportedly been working out at the stadium on the TCO Performance Center campus in hopes of a return. If he does pass a physical and rejoin the Vikings, how Akers looks after a second Achilles tear will be interesting to watch.
He would become the favorite to earn the RB3 job behind both Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler.
