When the Minnesota Vikings signed quarterback Sam Darnold, it wasn't thought to be one of major consequence. He was viewed as a bridge quarterback who was only here to start until rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy was ready to play.
That isn't how the Vikings see it though. They believe that Darnold can keep them competitive as they have a slight reset year. During OTAs, Darnold has shown why he was once a third-overall pick.
One day of practice, so no reason at all to make more of it than needbe, but thought Sam Darnold looked very good today. Just unafraid throwing over the middle, accurate, some nice juice on it. Lot of solid connections with Jordan Addison.

It's great to see Darnold playing well. Yes, it's just practice but he has struggled mightily throughout his career albeit in poor situations.
The really nice thing for the Vikings is how comfortable Darnold has looked throwing over the middle. He played in an air raid adjacent offense at USC which doesn't prioritize throwing over the middle down the field. His one season with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco seems to have helped him out quite a bit.
Is this an overreaction? Well, as Alec Lewis said in the tweet, it's just one day of practice. However, it's good to see his play on a high level.
