The Minnesota Vikings have addressed their depth at left guard. It took them over two months but they have officially re-signed guard Dalton Risner. The deal is for one year and was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It was curious why the Vikings hadn’t re-signed Risner yet. The prevailing thought was he had been asking for too much money, as he had publically requested “starter level money.” That was in the neighborhood of $9 million per season.
As it currently sits, Risner will come in and compete with Blake Brandel for the starting job at left guard. There are some limitations with Risner, especially in the running game. He struggled to climb to the second level and take on linebackers with poor angles and average movement skills.
As a pass blocker, Risner excels and that will make an impact with a rookie quarterback in J.J. McCarthy.
