Tragedy struck the Minnesota Vikings on the morning of Saturday, July 6th when cornerback Khyree Jackson and two of his friends passed away in a car accident. It shook the entire football world to its core and reminded us about how precious life is.
The last week has been a time of remembrance for many who knew Jackson, AJ Lytton Jr. and Isaiah Hazel. On Friday night, they had a vigil at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School and tragedy struck again.
During the vigil, gunshots were fired and two people were and two people were shot. Carl Willis of 7News DC was at the scene when the shots were fired and described what happened.
Scott, just to set the scene for you, as you mentioned earlier, where Wise High School where they were holding a vigil in the parking lot. It was packed at the time. But as you can see, it is now a crime scene after shots were fired. As you mentioned, we happened to be here covering that vigil when those shots were fired. At first, we heard fireworks earlier in the night being set off as we parked in the lot getting ready for the newscast. Then shortly after 10 o'clock tonight, we heard some more pops, but it was clear those were gunshots. Police are focused on this section of the parking lot. If you take a look back in the back of that parking lot, at that near that white van with the lights, that's where we were parked at the time. Again, we heard those gunshots very close to our truck. I ducked down as people scrambled around the parking lot, then drove us out of the area. Once the scene was clear, police now say that two people were shot steps
What an awful act to happen and for it to occur at a vigil is even worse. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by this senseless act.
