The NFL Draft process is such a fascinating proposition in many ways. How each analysts sees a player can vary so much and evaluators will also fall in love with prospects. I'm just as guilty of it as everyone else. I even have the All Forno team that I release ahead of the NFL Draft every year.
It can be a difficult thing for an evaluator to come off of his or her projection where they believe "this is the guy" and they pound the table for them. While that often is the case, it doesn't have to be a situation where you only can this guy or it's a failure. Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah spoke about that mindset in his pre-draft press conference on Thursday.
"A lot of times evaluators can be a little one-track mind, this is the guy and nobody else. That's not how it's been. We've really come to appreciate how guys get to their answer a different way and I think that's going to serve us well."
That comment is very interesting from Adofo-Mensah. He is essentially saying that the Vikings aren't focused in on one guy but rather open to multiple options across the board. If they end up doing that, it will help them make smarter decisions and not overpay to go and select a player.
