The quarterback class is the talk of the town with the Minnesota Vikings. They are close to getting one of their pick but they still need to trade up. There are a lot of discussion points with the quarterback position with some similarities at the top.
This draft class is arguably the best we've seen in some time and that draws comparisons to classes of years past. The one thing that the Vikings have that others don't is a head coach that was drafted to play the position.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell was drafted in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots so he knows a thing or two about quarterback classes. He was asked about his class and what his scouting report would look like in today's NFL.
"I would be a developmental later round pick with a ton of upside as well. But whether I end up reaching that upside Gabe, that's between the football gods and myself to have a long conversation about my career."
O'Connell was one of the most athletic quarterbacks of the day but just didn't have the arm to be able to take advantage of his gifts. His experience has helped turn him into a really good coach in the NFL. Will he be able to pick the right guy to lead the Vikings into the next era? That much remains to be seen, but hearing him discuss himself was a really nice change of pace.
