The Minnesota Vikings are going to be a team to watch in the 2024 season. They are a team in transition after moving on from Kirk Cousins and selecting J.J. McCarthy in the first round of the NFL Draft. Being in transition means a lot of different opinions on how good the team will be.
So much for the 2024 Vikings will be dependent on the quarterback position. They are set to start Sam Darnold until McCarthy is ready and that could end up being a permanent thing for the season if he plays well.
Because of that element of uncertainty, projections for the Vikings are all over the place, including ESPN's FPI. They have the Vikings as the 25th-best team in the NFL with a paltry 14% chance to make the playoffs.

ESPN's Football Power Index has the Vikings as the NFL's No. 25 team.
14% chance to make the playoffs.
54.8% chance of a top-10 pick in the 2025 draft. https://t.co/Gtkl5gUekW
A 54.8% chance at a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft is sure to make the fanbase happy for the future, but it's not great when you are also hoping to make the playoffs in 2024. Is there a perfect solution for the Vikings? Absolutely, that's winning the Super Bowl in 2024.
The likely scenario is the Vikings are competitive week in and week out and they barely miss out on a playoff spot, just like in 2023.
