A Miami Dolphins training camp fight has star players like Tyreek Hill speaking out.
Generally speaking, NFL coaches don’t like fights during practice. But Hill? He thinks the brawl from practice early this week was, in a word, “amazing” for the team.
“I think the fight we had today was amazing. We need that. Teams that I’ve been on that won, those teams fought,” Hill said, per Kaushik Sampath of the Miami Herald. “They aren’t going to fight in the locker room. This is where you fight. Then right after the play you calm yourself down, in between the whistle you’re right back at it with no mental errors.”
Maybe Hill is on to something, but this one smacks a little different for the Dolphins than it does most teams. Miami, after all, collapsed last year, losing a grip on the AFC East crown at the finish line and making a playoff exit in the first round.
On that particular day of practice, Hill’s offense couldn’t get going at all due to bad snaps. The play before the fight merely asked the offense to pick up one yard to secure a first down.
So yes, perhaps this spurs the Dolphins in a positive way. But Hill’s comments will look interesting in hindsight either way.
