The Miami Dolphins suffered another embarrassing loss at the hands of the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. Last year, it was blowing a big lead to the Titans, allowing them to come roaring back and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This year, the game was never in question. The Titans put it on the Dolphins on Monday night and the game wasn’t as close as the final 31-12 score would indicate – which is saying something, because that score doesn’t indicate a close game.
It was a truly inept offensive display for the Dolphins on the night. Miami turned to their third different starting quarterback of the season on Monday night, this time giving the nod to newly-acquired quarterback, and former Pro Bowl quarterback, Tyler “Snoop” Huntley. Huntley had been signed two weeks’ prior in the wake of Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion. Huntley, much like Skylar Thompson before him, struggled to get anything going on offense, and the Dolphins floundered once again.
While there is plenty of blame to go around for the Dolphins’ struggles on offense – be it Huntley not performing, the offensive line in front of him not giving him a chance to succeed, the running backs not being able to establish a run game, or Mike McDaniel’s play calling – the blame game doesn’t do anything to fix the issue: Miami’s offense simply does not function without Tagovailoa at the helm.
The Dolphins may have gotten some good news on that front Monday, as it has been reported that Tagovailoa is currently “symptom-free” as he recovers from his third diagnosed concussion of his professional career. If Tagovailoa is able to maintain symptom-free status, that opens the door on his return to the Dolphins offense for Week 8. Whether or not the Dolphins can hold on and turn things around by then remains to be seen. There’s a lot of work to be done, but if McDaniel and crew can manage to get something going on offense in the next three weeks, help could be on the way.
