The Miami Dolphins are heading into their Week 5 matchup with the New England Patriots a battered, bruised, and potentially broken team. Miami is coming off an embarrassing loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football, and come into the week with even more injury questions than they started last week with.
The Dolphins listed 13 players on their initial injury report for the week, with the major news being that outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury that will require reconstructive surgery. This is the second major injury of Phillips’ Dolphins career, after suffering an Achilles injury last season.
Beyond the Phillips injury, the only other player who was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice – which was just a walk-through and all injury designations are an estimate – was Dolphins’ safety Jordan Poyer, who is listed with a shin injury.
Miami had a whopping nine players listed as limited participants on the day: Offensive tackle Terron Armstead (concussion), wide receiver Braxton Berrios (ankle), cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussion), linebacker David Long, Jr. (hamstring), running back Raheem Mostert (chest), linebacker Duke Riley (hamstring), quarterback Skylar Thompson (Ribs), wide receiver Malik Washington (quadricep), and running back Jeff Wilson, Jr. (knee).
On the positive end of things for the Dolphins, wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. was listed as a full participant with a knee injury. Beckham has not played for the Dolphins this season after signing with the team in the offseason and being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Beckham’s listing would indicate that the Dolphins are opening his 21-day window to be removed from the PUP list.
On the other side, the Patriots come into the game with a laundry list of their own on the injury report, as center David Andrews, safety Kyle Duggar, wide receiver K.J. Osborn, safety Jabrill Peppers, and offensive tackle Caedan Wallace were all listed as non-participants. New England also had an additional 10 players listed as limited participants for Wednesday’s practice.
