A rash of injuries, including one to Jaylen Waddle, has the Miami Dolphins making roster moves before the team’s first preseason game.
Waddle’s injury is a “minor” one, as explained by head coach Mike McDaniel, yet the team went out and signed Mike Hartley Jr. and, in a corresponding move, waived offensive lineman Chasen Hines.
And Waddle is just the start when it comes to the injury woes at the wideout spot for the Tua Tagovailoa-led offense. While his arrival was hyped for obvious reasons, Odell Beckham Jr. has yet to suit up.
Beyond that, Braxton Berrios has been out of practice recently and both Erik Ezukanma and Tahj Washington have continued to battle injuries as well.
Given that the Dolphins might not play starters long, if at all, during Friday’s preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons, it makes sense for the team to go get someone like Hartley, who can eat snaps while auditioning for a roster spot.
And given the fights with the Falcons during joint practices this week, the Dolphins will probably be happy to just hit the start of next week without yet another injury to the wideout depth chart.
