NFL teams have been hard at work rebuilding their rosters, bolstering position groups and executing trades. Ahead of the 2024-25 season, it's important to look across the league and identify which teams bolstered their roster and created positions of strength to build around and which teams neglected certain positions.
Pro Football Focus did just that, ranking the strongest and weakest position groups among all 32 teams. According to PFF, the Rams own the weakest safety room in the NFL.
Here's what Pro Football Focus said about the Rams' safety room:
"A group that struggled in 2023 only looks weaker in 2024, as Kamren Curl (66.6 PFF grade in 2023) and Russ Yeast (57.0) are the lone safeties with experience on the roster. The Rams drafted Kamren Kinchens in the third round but will once again rely on late-round or undrafted players to step into big roles in 2024."
Weaker is not quite how I would put it, as the room particularly struggled last year and added two better players. However, the room is largely unproven, hence my interest in acquiring Justin Simmons. Simmons would open up quite a bit for the Rams' secondary and would improve their safety room significantly.
Kamren Kinchens will do a lot, and this room can certainly be better than it was last year. However, I do recognize PFF's hesitance to buy in on a room without any real proven playmakers.
