The Los Angeles Chargers need to keep their options at backup quarterback open with the unfortunate news of Justin Herbert's right foot injury. Good news for them: There is a backup quarterback out there who knows this offensive system very well.

Tyler Huntley signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 as an undrafted free agent, a move that would introduce him to both current Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. From 2020-2023, Huntley started nine games and played in a total of 20 while backing up Lamar Jackson. His best performance was in a Wild Card game in 2022 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he threw for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while rushing for another 54 yards.

Here is how Huntley's career stacks up against Easton Stick's:

StatisticHuntleyStick
Turnover-worthy Play Rate (TWP%)3.3%3.3%
Pressure to Sack Rate (P2S%)20.6%22.6%
Passer Rating79.485.8

Both have had relatively the same careers and will likely always be viewed as backups. Each will be a free agent in 2025.

The Chargers may not even need to trade for Huntley, as some who cover the Cleveland Browns believe the team would opt to keep second-year player Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Regardless, Huntley should be on the team's radar, as he presents at minimum a more viable option to play football games than either Max Duggan or Casey Bauman.
