The Miami Dolphins released veteran quarterback Mike White today, opening up the possibility of him joining his fourth NFL team since entering the league as a fifth-round draft pick in 2018. The Los Angeles Chargers are clearly in need of another quarterback to back up Justin Herbert after Easton Stick's horrendous preseason performance. Would White be a good target for the team to consider?
The 2024 preseason was lackluster for both Stick and White. Stick had the second-worst passer rating of the preseason, and White was not much better at fourth-worst of the preseason. Both struggled to avoid sacks when pressured. The two combined for just one touchdown. Needless to say, it was not a great outing for either.
Zooming out to a career-long outlook, White had a couple of intriguing years with the New York Jets as the "other guy" behind second overall selection Zach Wilson.
This was peak Mike White.

Sad to see him go, but the #NFL is a production business and he was not producing.#GoFins pic.twitter.com/joMw0dE7UX
Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander was with the Jets' front office when they brought White over from Dallas. That familiarity may play a role in bringing White over for even the third-string quarterback role.
