With the Los Angeles Chargers opening training camp in just three weeks, it gives us a chance to introduce a new series. Here, we will discuss each positional depth chart ahead of training camp.
Before training camp, we will review every position group and set the table for what is to come before the season kicks off, starting with the quarterback spot.
The Chargers have four quarterbacks on the current 90-man roster. Here's how the depth chart shakes out ahead of training camp.
Los Angeles Chargers QB depth chart
1. Justin Herbert
There will not be a quarterback competition here. Justin Herbert is the unquestioned starter and will likely hold that role as long as he wears a Chargers uniform.
Because of the way Jim Harbaugh has run his teams in his career, we can expect Herbert to throw the ball a lot less this coming season but that could make him a better, more efficient quarterback.
2. Easton Stick
Easton Stick will be entering his sixth season with the Chargers in 2024 as the former fifth-round pick has proven himself to be a competent backup. He will face competition for that spot but he will have a firm grip on it entering camp.
3. Max Duggan
The former Heisman Trophy candidate spent much of his rookie season bouncing around as he was waived and then re-signed to the practice squad three separate times. The former TCU quarterback has struggled to turn his college success into something he can use in the pros.
The question at this position comes down to whether or not Duggan can beat out Stick to be Herbert's backup. The likely answer is no but it's also not impossible. Though Stick completed 63.8 percent of his passes and threw three touchdowns in his four starts last season in relief of Herbert, the Chargers lost all of those games.
If Duggan gives the team a chance to be more competitive if he ever has to take over, the team could be swayed to go in a new direction.
4. Casey Bauman
Casey Bauman is not your average "camp arm" as the undrafted quarterback is 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds. He began his college career at Montana State before transferring to Augustana and though he put up big numbers in college, his strength of schedule will be called into question.
It will be fun to see what he can do for this team, but he's likely competing for a spot on the practice squad.
