Los Angeles Chargers must make aggressive move to address QB position

The Los Angeles Chargers have an issue on their hands, whether they want to admit it or not.

Justin Herbert is going to miss the entire preseason and while it sounds good to have him gradually work his way back to speed by Week 1 of the regular season, the reality is that his plantar fascia injury could linger into the season and as a result, could be much worse than originally anticipated.

The Chargers need a strong backup plan. They need an insurance policy and they need one that is better than Easton Stick.

Teams like the Chargers can be thin at the quarterback position when they have a superstar at quarterback, but injuries happen and that is how Herbert's season ended prematurely last year. Stick came on in relief and while he wasn't horrible, he's not the guy you want to pin your hopes on.

Chargers need much more than Easton Stick

The Chargers were going to be a run-first team this season and now, could be even more run-heavy if Herbert is not 100 percent when the season opens. But they are still going to need a quarterback to be able to make plays or they won't be tough for defensive coordinators to game plan against.

It seems quite risky to go into the season with the likes of Stick or Max Duggan and there are obvious replacements out there. Ryan Tannehill is still looking for a new home. Tyler Huntley, now with the Cleveland Browns, is an obvious fit due to his familiarity with Greg Roman's offense.

Even a call to one of the team's past quarterbacks, Chase Daniel, should not be completely ruled out.

The team may want to see more practice sessions and perhaps even one preseason game with what it has, but if there is any indication that Herbert's injury could be something he has to deal with well into the regular season, then a move almost has to be made.
