Los Angeles Chargers: Jim Harbaugh reverses horrible decision made by Brandon Staley image

The tenure of former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is considered by most fans to be an unmitigated disaster. Recently, it was revealed that new head coach Jim Harbaugh reversed one of his decisions.

After the Chargers gave up a 27-point lead in a Wild Card game loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Staley would relieve offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and quarterbacks coach Shane Day of their duties. Staley was then fired before the 2023 season was even over after the team allowed the Raiders to put up 63 points.

Appearing on The Herd, listen to what former Chargers backup quarterback Chase Daniel had to say regarding Justin Herbert, Staley and Day. Daniel was with the Chargers during the same years Day was there (2021-22).

Justin Herbert wanted Shane Day as his QB coach and Jim Harbaugh made it happen

As if Chargers fans needed another reason to dislike Staley, this move speaks volumes about where his head was at. Despite his quarterback being highly in favor of Day, he fired him anyway. Herbert experienced the best seasons of his young career with Day as his coach and though he wasn't bad in 2023, there was a noticeable difference in his level of play.

Blame that on what you feel like, but the loss of Day almost certainly played a part.

Harbaugh recognizes that and in February, made the move to have Day back as the team's quarterbacks coach. Day spent the 2023 season with the Houston Texans as a senior offensive assistant and now has a second stint in Los Angeles.

Harbaugh has been successful everywhere he has been a head coach. Moves like this one are an example as to why that is.
